Not too long ago, Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep had finally broken his silence about his upcoming project and said that he had greenlit not one but three projects that would start in due course of time. The actor, who has been busy with his commitment as host for Big Boss Kannada (which had an OTT season and the full TV season this time), since the release of his last, Vikrant Rona, and then spent a few months on his favourite pastime cricket with the Kannada Chalanachitra Cup and the Celebrity Cricket League, is currently focusing on election campaigning, having pledged his support to sitting chief minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Karnataka elections get over on May 10, with results expected a few days later. Once all that frenzy dies down, Sudeep will return to his primary love – acting. On May 22, he will shoot for the promo of his next, #Kiccha46, with the official launch slated for June 1. That’s about all he’s offered his fans to chew on so far. But that was enough for them to begin speculating who he could have chosen to collaborate with first, given that a bunch of names have been doing the rounds for a while.

For the longest time, the frontrunners believed to be helming #Kiccha46 were Vikrant Rona maker Anup Bhandari and Maanaadu maker Venkat Prabhu. Anup and Sudeep had agreed to work on at least 2-3 films after Vikrant Rona, of which they’d announced two – Biilla Ranga Baasha and an untitled film about Ashwathama. But the Kannada filmmaker recently told OTTplay that Billa Ranga Baasha is a film that needs at least six months in pre-production, which rules him out, if he has only just begun work on it. However, given that this was a project that he was to do with Sudeep prior to Vikrant Rona and the fact that it’s been a good nine months since their last film together came out, it could be that he’s ready to go on floors after all.

Venkat’s film with Sudeep will have to wait until after the filmmaker completes his current commitment. That leaves Ranna maker Nandakishore, who has not announced a film since he directed Shreyas Manju’s Raana, given that his second collaboration with Dhruva Sarja, Dubari, fell through. Fans are not too enthused about this combination, but Sudeep had tweeted earlier his intention of working with the filmmaker again.

Then again, there have been whispers about another Tamil filmmaker helming #Kiccha46 after all and director Cheran’s name is being bandied about. Some fans have also been saying that Sudeep, like Yash, is also leaning towards a woman director for his next and Soorarai Pottru maker Sudha Kongara’s name popped up. The filmmaker has an upcoming collaboration with Hombale Films, which they’d said would be a true story that deserved to be told. Given that the banner is now officially setting foot in Malayalam cinema with its upcoming Fahadh Faasil film Dhoomam, Sudha’s project could just be the first Tamil flick after all and may not be with Sudeep. But then again, one can always hope for miracles, right!
