Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan on Wednesday released the teaser of his much-awaited movie King of Kotha. Of all Dulquer's movies, this one enjoyed an unprecedented craze since it went into production last year. For one, this film promised to show Dulquer in a new dimension.

Dulquer has remained a popular choice to essay gentle and romantic roles. There were a few exceptions like Kammatti Paadam, but predominately he filled the void of a romantic hero, not just in Malayalam cinema, but across the Indian film industry. Take, for example, Sita Ramam. Although he played a soldier in the period drama, Lieutenant Ram is a gentleman, who belongs to the 'make love, not war' camp.

And King of Kotha aims to redefine Dulquer's image and cast him in the mould of a 'mass hero.' If the teaser is anything to go by, the film is likely to make good on its promise.

The teaser opens with a voice-over telling us that the cursed land of Kotha is waiting for its promised king to deliver it from the clutches of a demon. Enter Dulquer as the King, challenging our preconceived notions of a just and noble ruler. He seems to be ruthless and well-adjusted to life in brutality.

The teaser has been edited with the sole intention to give us a glimpse of the convincing transformation of Dulquer into the role of a ruthless gangster. The teaser packs glimpses of a lot of action moments and gives us the idea of the kind of power that Dulquer's character wields in the movie. "In Kotha, it's day when I say it's day. And it's night, when I say it's night," says Dulquer.

The star cast for the film includes Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prasanna, Chemban Vinod Jose, Gokul Suresh, Nyla Usha, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Sudhi Koppa and Shammi Thilakan. The film is written by Abhilash N Chandran and helmed by Abhilash Joshiy.

Besides playing the lead role in it, Dulquer has also bankrolled King of Kotha under his home production banner Wayfarer Films. The movie will release in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi in August this year.
