Warner Bros picture and HBO Max dropped the trailer of the upcoming film, King Richard, starring Will Smith as the titular character of the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Willaims.

The sports biopic will trace the upbringing of the Williams sisters, the tennis prodigies, from the perspective of their ever-encouraging father, Richard Williams.

The trailer follows Will Smith as Richard, spurring his daughters on to be their best selves, pushing them to become the pro champions they are today. Smith can be seen saying, “You’re going to be representing every little Black girl on Earth,” to one of his daughters. Smith comes across as supportive with the lack of aggression, which is generally present in sports biopics.

The movie follows the story of Richard Williams, an undeterred father who was instrumental in raising two of the most extraordinarily gifted athletes of all time, according to its official synopsis. Driven by a clear vision of their future and using unconventional methods, Richard takes Venus and Serena Williams from the streets of Compton to the global stage as legendary icons. The film promises to be profound and moving as it displays the power of family, perseverance and unwavering belief as a means to achieve the impossible and impact the world.

The Reinaldo Marcus Green directorial also stars Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton as Venus and Serena Williams, respectively, Aunjanue Ellis as Oracene “Brandi” Price, Jon Bernthal as coach Rick Macci and Tony Goldwyn as coach Paul Cohen.

The film is slated for a theatrical release on November 19. It will stream on HBO Max as well. The film was supposed to release in November 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic.
