Kingdom box office collection day 5: Vijay Deverakonda's film fails the Monday test, makes just Rs 2 crore

Kingdom is one of the biggest releases in recent times and had to click at any cost, as Vijay Deverakonda has been going through a series of flops in his career. The action drama had a great first weekend, grossing close to Rs 75 crore. Everyone was eager to see how the film would fare on its first Monday.

Kingdom's occupancy drops big time

The numbers are in, and Kingdom has failed the key Monday test, making only Rs 2 crore net on day 5. This shows how drastically the occupancy has fallen. So far, Kingdom has grossed just over Rs 80 crore and still needs close to Rs 20 crore to enter the safe zone. The action drama was made on a budget of Rs 130 crore — the highest ever in Vijay Deverakonda’s career.

Thanks to an OTT deal, the makers recovered a significant chunk of the film's budget. Netflix bagged the rights for a whopping Rs 53 crore, so the rest of the revenue had to come from theatrical collections. As the weekdays set in, it remains to be seen how much the film can earn in the coming days.

The best part for Kingdom is that no major films are scheduled for release until August 14, 2025. So, the makers need to aggressively promote the film to ensure it performs well. Once Coolie and War 2 hit the screens, there will be little room for Kingdom at the box office.

Kingdom is yet to breakeven in several areas

Producer Naga Vamsi stated in an interview that several regions have already entered the safe zone, and he’s hopeful the rest will follow. However, the scenario is different in some parts of Andhra, where a significant portion of the revenue is yet to be recovered.

Vijay Deverakonda plays a cop in the film who travels to Sri Lanka on a special mission to bring his brother back. Bhagyashree Borse plays the female lead, and the film features music by Anirudh.
