Last week, it was confirmed that Kishkindha Kaandam, which had emerged as the Onam hit from Malayalam cinema, had been picked up by Disney+ Hotstar for its streaming rights. Considering that Tovino Thomas’ Ajayante Randam Moshanam, which was also an Onam release, had landed on the same platform and became available to stream on November 8, it was thought that Kishkindha Kaandam would be deferred by a few weeks.

Late November or early December was rumored to be the window for Kishkindha Kaandam’s OTT release. A little while ago, though, Asif Ali took to social media to confirm that the film would drop earlier than expected. Kishkindha Kaandam will begin streaming on Disney+ Hotstar on November 19. It will be available to stream in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.

Director Dinjith Ayyathan’s story revolves around three main characters played by Asif, Aparna Balamurali, and veteran actor Vijayaraghavan, and occurrences in their lives, including a missing firearm and a missing person, with the drama centering on some secrets.

The film's title is from a chapter from the Ramayana, but has no connection to mythology, with the story set in the monkey-populated protected forest, Kallepathi.

When the film released in theatres, it received overwhelmingly positive response both from critics and audiences, with Vijayaraghavan’s performance, in particular, receiving a lot of praise. The actor’s character Appu Pillai, according to the filmmaker, was modelled on the former’s late father, thespian NN Pillai.

According to reports, based on the film’s good showing at the box office, Kishkindha Kaandam’s satellite and digital streaming rights were sold for a whopping Rs 12 crore, which is twice it’s budget. This makes it the highest post-theatrical deal for an Asif Ali-led film. The theatrical business, over two months, is estimated to have grossed Rs 70 crore worldwide, making it one of the highest grossers of the year.
