Koffee With Karan season 7 has commenced with Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt as the first guests on Karan Johar’s show. However, there appeared to be a third guest this time too – nepotism. That word did not leave Karan and Ranveer haunted the host with it again with the mention of ‘nepo bias.’
Ranveer Singh used the term ‘nepo bias’ on Koffee With Karan 7 premiere. The actor called out Karan’s bias towards Alia and said that it was ‘expected.’
Ranveer stated that Karan was biased towards Alia when she won the last round on the show. The actor was already upset with Alia for not choosing him as someone she has better chemistry with as compared to Varun Dhawan.
Already hurt with the nepotism comment since two years, Karan told Ranveer that he will stand by Alia and challenged Ranveer Singh. Karan said, “Haan hum saath-saath hain. Kya kar loge?”
Ranveer in turn questioned what could he do. “Thoda aur struggle kar lenge,” the actor said. He then narrated his wife Deepika Padukone’s famous dialogue, “Tum kya jaano Karan babu?”
Alia called Ranveer a ‘sore loser’ for the way he behaved, while Karan laughed it off.
Interestingly, early on in the episode, Karan brought out the topic of nepotism and Ranveer shunned it. The actor said that he feels what Karan has gone through because people tend to misunderstand them.
“We are light in life, so people tend to do this. I feel you,” Ranveer told Karan. Before that, the actor tried to ignore the topic altogether and showed his faith in Karan’s show, Koffee With Karan, which was ruling on TV for over a decade.
Koffee With Karan and Karan Johar were immensely affected when Kangana Ranaut called Karan the ‘flagbearer of nepotism’ on Koffee With Karan season 5. She was promoting Rangoon when she made the statement and it affected the whole industry thereon. The comment started a wave on the internet. Ever since, nobody was sure if Koffee With Karan would ever return. However, the show is now back with season 7, which premiered on Disney+Hotstar on July 7.
