Koffee With Karan 7: KJo corrects Akshay Kumar’s ‘flagbearer of royalty’ statement, calls himself ‘flagbearer of nepotism’

It looks like Karan Johar is ready to take a dig at himself and take back control of his show, Koffee With Karan. The host, who was roasted by one of his previous guests Kangana Ranaut, now wears the flag himself. In the most recent episode featuring Akshay Kumar and Samantha Akkineni, Karan repeated Kangana’s statement and said that he’s a ‘flagbearer of nepotism.’

Samantha made her debut on Koffee With Karan 7 and she called Akshay and Karan ‘royalty itself.’ Akshay took the baton and passed it on to Karan. He said, “Karan is the flagbearer of royalty.”

Karan Johar instead ended up saying that he’s just the flagbearer of one thing. The host repeated Kangana’s exact words as he said, “I'm not flagbearer of royalty, I'm the flagbearer of nepotism.”

However, Akshay stopped Karan from going any further on the topic. With folded hands, Karan said, “Yes please.”

Kangana called Karan the flagbearer of nepotism back on Koffee With Karan season 5. The statement has stuck with the filmmaker ever since. People see him in a different light and troll him often, using the exact word.

KJo tried to make fun of the issue many-a-times. At an awards show soon after the incident, Karan and Saif Ali Khan danced to Bole Chudiyan Bole Kangana from Karan’s own film, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. After the song, Karan said, “Woh kuch na bole toh hi behtar hai.” Of course, the filmmaker was trolled for that statement itself too.

Now, Karan has accepted that the word is stuck with him and while, he tries to avoid the topic, the filmmaker almost always ends up discussing the same. Even in the latest episode, he questioned Samantha about the Telugu film industry (Tollywood) promoting nepotism openly. Dodging the topic, Samantha said that she finds herself lucky and feels there was divine intervention which is why she could make it where she is.
