Saif’s mother, Sharmila Tagore, now opens up about the same as she graces the latest episode of Karan Johar’s chat show, Koffee With Karan Season 8. The legendary actor spoke about the entire row quite candidly.
The new episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8 features Saif Ali Khan and Sharmila Tagore, marking the first-ever mother-son duo to have graced the couch together. The two were very candid and fun throughout the episode. Sharmila was open to discussing everything from her bikini row back in the day to Saif’s ‘karnamas’ and everything in between. When they tapped into his married life with Amrita Singh and the split, a vulnerable part of their life was touched.
After talking about how Saif Ali Khan married Amrita Singh, they started discussing their separation. Saif and Amrita got married in 1991 and got divorced after almost 13 years in 2004. The two are parents to two children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. Talking about the split, Tagore said, “When you are together for such a long time and you have such lovely children, then no breakup is easy. Then it is not harmonious… I know it is difficult to have harmony at that stage, everybody is hurt… so that stage was not nice, but I tried. But that's water under the bridge; she needed time to cool down.”
The legendary actor also added how it wasn’t a happy time for the family as they didn’t only lose Amrita Singh but also Saif’s kids Sara and Ibrahim. However, their family is strong and very much together now. The same episode saw Sara Ali Khan showering love on her grandmother and father through a video message. Saif Ali Khan is now married to Kareena Kapoor Khan, whom he tied the knot with in 2014, and is now the father of Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir Ali Khan with her.
