Mollywood’s latest entry into the heist genre, Kolla, is gearing up for its OTT release. The movie, which is helmed by debutant Suraj Varma, had hit theatres on June 9 and is among the notable entries in the rural heist thriller genre that also includes cult films such as Anil Radhakrishnan Menon’s Sapthamasree Thaskaraha that had Prithviraj Sukumaran and Asif Ali in the lead.
The latest movie, which has a subversive take on the whole heist concept, is fronted by Rajisha Vijayan and Priya Prakash Varrier with supporting acts by Vinay Forrt, Prashanth Alexander and Alencier Ley Lopez.

What is Kolla about?
Unlike the usual heist thrillers that focus on the planning and the process of the heist itself, Kolla revolves around what happens to the perpetrators after they pull off the act. The film has Rajisha and Priya playing two youngsters who lease a floor below a bank, to start their beauty parlour. Days before their venture’s inauguration, the villagers and the cops find out that the bank has been robbed and the women become the prime suspects.
How they face the predicament and get away with it, form the plot of the suspense thriller that is based on a story by National Award-winning duo Bobby and Sanjay and is scripted by Jasim Jalal and Neslon Joseph.
The film also has Shebin Benson, who plays an aide along with Alencier, while Vinay Forrt essays the role of the shrewd police officer, who is tasked with tracking down the criminals and bringing them to justice. Its music director Shaan Rahman also appears in a cameo role, as an IPS officer.
When and where to watch Kolla?
Kolla’s OTT rights have been bagged by Manorama Max. Though the OTT platform is yet to officially announce its release date, the film is expected to begin streaming on Manorama Max and OTTplay Premium by the third week of July.
