Konkona Sen Sharma has won hearts with her performance in Neeraj Ghaywan’s Geeli Pucchi from the anthology Ajeeb Daastaans. Portraying the role of a homosexual woman, especially from a Dalit background, Sharma nailed the character.

In an interview with Mid-Day, she revealed that the short was going to be named something completely different. She spilled, “We had other titles in mind, including Deewani. Sumit suggested Geeli Pucchi once the film was ready. As a Bengali, I wasn’t familiar with the term, but I love that it comes straight from the characters.”

Sharma was of the opinion that usually her films or roles don’t reach out to many viewers, due to which she doesn’t get to know much about the reactions of the audience. However, Netflix’s anthology has got wide recognition. Geeli Pucchi, especially, has been lauded and she too has been massively lauded for the first time.

Ajeeb Daastaans comprises of four short stories. The anthology opens with a story titled Majnu that revolves around a newlywed couple. The second featurette Khilauna sheds light on the reality of the working class of India. Featuring Sharma alongside Aditi Rao Hydari, Geeli Puchi stood at third. Kayoze Irani’s Ankahi is the last short in the anthalogy film. It talks about love as well as heartbreak between the characters played by Shafali Shah (who was seen as Natasha) and Manav Kaul (who played Kabir).
