Koose Munisamy Veerappan is directed by Sharath Jothi and produced by Prabhavathi RV
Following the success of four-episode docu-series based on dreaded smuggler Veerappan on Netflix (The Hunt for Veerappan), another popular streaming platform, ZEE5, is coming up with a show based on the forest bandit. Earlier this week, the streamer launched the trailer of their Tamil show Koose Munisamy Veerappan, that promises to offer an intriguing peek into the life and escapades of the criminal.
Koose Munisamy Veerappan, to stream on ZEE5 on December 8, is touted to be a compelling blend of real-life footage besides views from personalities close to Veerappan, including officials who left no stone unturned to capture him. The show creators claim the series will be a vivid portrait of ‘Veerappan’s enigmatic persona and his criminal legacy.’ The series will be primarily narrated by Veerappan himself.
Originally shot in Tamil, Koose Munisamy Veerappan will reveal Veerappan’s life story, discussing little-known truths and events. The show can be watched by streaming enthusiasts on ZEE5 in four languages – Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Telugu. For the unversed, Veerappan, the notorious criminal, was killed in a tense encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) in 2004.
The makers claim Koose Munisamy Veerappan, with its distinctly Tamil narrative, offers a fresh perspective into his life. Journalist Nakkheeran Gopal said that huge efforts went into securing an interview with Veerappan many years ago and the full version will be out through this documentary. More than a docu-series, the scribe claimed that the show will be an engaging action thriller.
In contrast to success stories that dominate the entertainment industry, Koose Munisamy Veerappan will be a gripping account of those who go against the law and choose a darker path, ZEE5 India’s Manish Kalra added. Prabhavathi, the producer of the show, hopes that the launch of the title will inspire many filmmakers to explore the docu-series format.
