Tamil actor-producer Sivakarthikeyan seems to be overjoyed following the world premiere of his latest production venture, Kottukkaali, at the Berlin International Film Festival . His production banner, Sivakarthikeyan Productions, shared a video giving a short glimpse of the movie's cast and crew's maiden Berlinale experience.

"History is made! Kottukkaali becomes the officially selected FIRST Tamil film to have its world premiere at the prestigious @berlinale, 74 years strong. This is a moment of immense pride for all of us! Let the world applaud the brilliance of our Tamil cinema," said the production company.

Kottukkaali makes an impression on Berlin audience

In the video, director PS Vinothraj, actor Soori, and the movie's co-producer Kalai Arasu can be seen enjoying the picturesque city of Berlin and basking in the spotlight at one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world. The trio also wore traditional Tamil attire, veshti, and shirt, to the premiere screening of Kottukkaali.

It seems Kottukkaali drew a massive crowd at the festival and was screened to a packed house. The film also received a standing ovation from the audience following the screening.

Kottukkaali, titled The Adamant Girl in English, has also received glowing reviews from the international press.

PS Vinothraj's growing international reputation

Vinothraj made quite a mark in the festival circuit with his debut feature film, Koozhangal, Pebbles. Soon, the film made national headlines when it became India's official entry for the 94th Oscars. Despite not receiving a nomination in the Best International Feature Film category, the film generated curiosity about Vinothraj's work.

Judging from the initial reactions from the Berlinale, it seems Vinothraj has delivered another cinematic gem. The film is touted to be a commentary on gender inequality, domestic violence, and superstitions. The narrative revolves around a girl forced into marriage against her will. Shocked by her family's utter disregard for her likes and dislikes, the girl falls silent, prompting the family to think she is possessed. What ensues is a series of violent efforts to exorcise the demon from the girl.

Kottukkaali stars Soori and Anna Ben in the lead roles.
