Kousalya Supraja Rama, the new film by director Shashank, has hit the big screen and the initial few reviews are quite positive. The film attempts to take a close and critical look at male chauvinism and the general idea attached to being a "man", with the filmmaker wishing to discuss the complex subject in a more palatable and 'commercial' manner. Darling Krishna, Brinda Acharya, Milana Nagaraj, Sudha Belawadi and Nagabhushana are part of the main cast with Arjun Janya scoring the music.
However, in the same vein as the positive reviews have emerged the allegations that the film is being promoted on social media with the help of fake tweets. According to a few popular Kannada film-tracking groups on Twitter, users with a minimum of 300 followers are being selectively approached to post "positive" tweets about Kousalya Supraja Rama, with each tweet being awarded Rs. 5. There's a pattern to this, turns out, with each fake tweet allegedly using the same set of four stills from the film along with these three hashtags: #KousalyaSuprajaRama, InCinemasNow and #KSR. We also hear that there is a specific WhatsApp Group dedicated to those who wish to be part of the fake/paid tweets campaign.
When OTTplay approached the Twitter pages that have flagged this campaign, it came to light that there is no formal evidence to back or deny these allegations, nor do we know about the entities involved in this. "It's unheard of in Kannada Film Industry," lament many users, speaking of the dangerous trend that is threatening to emerge.
"Ade doubt banthu.. TL ge 2 tweets with same pics bandaga.." (I grew suspicious as soon as I two tweets with the same pics in my timeline) said one user. "Very true even kabzaa did the same thing and as a result we got major havoc in first cycle of 2023," said another on Twitter.
The issue, however, is yet to really gain prominence and nor have the makers of Kousalya Supraja Rama have spoken about this. It would be interesting to see what comes off it eventually.
