Kannnada actor Darling Krishna has become a rom-com specialist off late, but his film with filmmaker Shashank may just provide a welcome break. This time around, Krishna is Rama in a family entertainer, says Shashank. “Kousalya Supraja Rama’s tagline is ‘Tale of a Real Man’ and by this we do not mean moustache-twirling machismo or bravado. This is a film that explores what a real man should be like from the perspective of women. In terms of emotions, Kousalya Supraja Rama will be provide a definition of a man,” explains Shashank, who has completed principal photography of the film and is currently in post-production.

The beauty of the film, adds the filmmaker, is that relatability of the story. “This is a story that has been put together from instances that happen to day-to-day life in society. All the characters have been written in a way that you will feel that you have met someone like that in your neighbourhood,” he says.

At 11 am on April 5 the filmmaker is set to reveal the first look of the film, which he is hoping to bring to theatres in June-July. “Kousalya Supraja Rama has a love story too and Krishna is paired with Brinda Acharya, but the crux of the narrative revolves around the mother-son relationship – between Kousalya, played by Sudha Belawadi, and Rama (Krishna). I honestly believe that Sudha’s character in the film will be her best to date. She plays the title role and her character is pivotal to the narrative,” he says. Also on the cast is Nagabhushana. “He has a very good character, which travels throughout the entire narrative, almost equivalent to Krishna’s role,” he says.

As for the leading lady Brinda, Shashank says that she is a talent to look forward to. “When I saw her showreel, I wasn’t immediately bowled over, but I saw a spark in her. We conducted workshops for her after she was chosen for the role and what I liked about her is her eagerness to learn,” says the filmmaker.
