Kali Puja is here and it is also a harsh reminder of a personal loss for Koushani Mukherjee. The actress lost her mother during this time in 2021. Mother and daughter bought white sarees with red borders to wear in the puja, but everything changed. It goes without saying that the actress is finding it difficult to cheer up. Traditionally, Koushani celebrates Diwali with grandeur. However, last year her mother passed away just a couple of days before Kali Puja. This is the first time there will be puja at her house but her mother will not be there.

In an interview with Anandabazar, the actress said, “Not just Kali Puja, I feel her absence every moment of every day. Last year we bought Benarasi sarees together. My mom went out wearing that saree. I did not get a chance to wear my saree, and will wear it this year.”

Koushani handled the situation with her father, her boyfriend Bonnie Chakraborty, her uncle, and her aunts. She said, “We have an established icon of Ma Kali at our house. My father bought gold pieces of jewellery on the day of Dhanteras. Priests will come from Tarapith. Last year, the puja stopped because of my mother’s demise. But this year it will be done with proper rituals and prayers.”

Koushani's house celebrates the day of the puja with vegetarian dishes – Radhaballavi, pulao, dhokar dalna, chanar dalna, and dessert. However, there is a Diwali special party on Tuesday where the actress will put on different attires. The night will be celebrated with biryani and mutton.
