Kannada superstar Darshan’s Kranti was supposed to be his answer to detractors if it were a massive hit at the box office. The film opened in theatres yesterday and buoyed by massive advance bookings for the first day, registered Rs 9 crore net collections, but early predictions for day 2 forecast a massive slump with only about one-third of day 1 revenue expected, following below par reviews for the V Harikrishna directorial.
The actor’s naysayers are having a field day on social media about the booking status of theatres across Bengaluru, with pretty much every hall accounting for barely any ticket sales and still reflecting in green. #GoGreen is the common refrain on social media about Kranti. A trade tracker wrote, “#Kranti Day 2 Booking. Only 1 show FF in banglore. Only 6 Shows FF in Mysore. Entire Karnataka less then 20 Shows FF. Doddaballapura only 85 tickets sold out over 15k approx collections.” (FF signifying Fast Filling). According to another trade tracker, there has been a drop of around 70-80% drop in the bookings for Kranti, which is shockingly low for a star of Darshan’s stature. The media ban and other controversies during the promotions of the film are believed to have affected turnout.
Some say that this low booking count could be because it is a working day and the film had opened on a holiday, adding that the weekend would therefore be crucial for team Kranti. But as of now, the status of shows in Bengaluru for Saturday and Sunday are just as bad as today. While the film opened with close to 600 shows, it is likely to forfeit a large chunk of this to Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which has been doing phenomenal business.
