The news of Kranti premiering on Amazon Prime Video has triggered a discussion of a kind on social media. On the one hand, fans of Challenging Star Darshan, along with those who could not catch the film on the big screen, are elated that the film will soon debut on OTT. However, on the other hand, many are wondering why the film has landed on a digital platform within a month of its theatrical release, thus raising a few doubts regarding its proclaimed box office success.
Earlier, Amazon Prime Video announced that Kranti will premiere on the streaming platform on February 23rd to inadvertently highlight the less-than-a-month gap between the theatrical and digital releases of the film. Considering that most films of late, especially those that have been successful at the box office, land on OTT at least 6-8 weeks after their theatrical debuts, netizens could not help but notice that Kranti's digital debut is happening rather too soon.
"Wasn't this supposed to be an industry hit? Why has it come on OTT within a month?" said a user to underline the fact that Kranti, supposedly, earned more than 100 crores at the box office. The makers of the film have already declared it a 'Revolutionary Blockbuster' but netizens are yet to fully trust these claims.
"So soon 😳," said another user, echoing the thoughts of many other netizens with a fellow Twitter user opining that releasing the film within one month of its theatrical release is a 'sign of disaster'.
The barrage of comments of the same kind, which came both in surprise and mockery, suggest that Kranti, quite indeed, did not live up to the expectations during its theatrical run and that its OTT debut comes well ahead of time.
Kranti will release on February 23rd in four different versions including the Kannada original and three dubbed forms (Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam). The Hindi version, on the other hand, is likely to drop on a different platform altogether and the team is yet to reveal the exact date. More updates to follow.
