March April are generally dull months at the Kannada box office, what with exam season, IPL and more. There are a few films coming audiences’ way in March, including the big-ticket launchpad of Yuva Rajkumar, Yuva, but compared to the torrential downpour of films in February, it will be a lot calmer.

This week for instance, there are only three Kannada films that are set to release in theatres. Even the big releases in English and Hindi – Dune Part 2 and Laapataa Ladies – do not have Kannada dubbed versions. Here’s a look at what is releasing this week.

Kreem

Directed by Abhishek Basanth and written by Agni Sreedhar, Kreem has Samyuktha Hegde in the lead in a film that revolves around human sacrifice. A neo noir thriller based on a true story, Samyuktha plays a girl who infiltrates a cult that practices human sacrifice for wealth and power. What her intentions are behind getting access to the cult and what she then does forms the crux of the movie. Joining her on the cast of the film are writer Agni Sreedhar, Achyuth Kumar, Arun Sagar, Roshan Agni Sreedhar, Ashwin Hassan and Imran Pasha, among others.

Purushothamana Prasanga

This Kannada comedy directed by Devdas Kapikad follows the title character Purushothama, played by Ajay Prithvi, a boy from a middle-class family, who dreams of greener pastures in Dubai. But before he can make his dream come true, Purushothama falls in love. Whether or not he manages to fulfil this long-standing wish or if his world will come crashing down is what the film is about. Rishika Naik, who impressed recently with her film Juni, in which she played a character with dissociative identity disorder, is Ajay’s love interest in Purushothamana Prasanga, while Vijay Shobharaj Pavoor, Naveen D Padil, Bhojaraj Vamanjoor, among others, complete the supporting cast.

Jugalbandi

Director Divakar Dimdima presents a thriller about the pursuit of money, with three story arcs revolving around a mother, a couple and a visually-impaired person. The film’s ensemble cast includes Ashwin Rao, Archana Kottige, Yash Shetty, among others.
