Noted Malayalam filmmaker Krishand made a stellar return to the web series format with Sambhava Vivaranam Nalarasangham (The Chronicles of the 4.5 Gang or just 4.5 Gang). The Malayalam web series is winning appreciation for its gangster comedy narrative and brilliant making. Among the director’s line-up of upcoming films, the most anticipated project is the one with Mohanlal. During a recent exclusive chat with OTTplay, Krishand gave an update on the status of the upcoming Mohanlal film.

Krishand, who has helmed acclaimed films such as Aavasavyuham, has joined hands with Mohanlal for a project, much to the excitement of fans of both the superstar and director. Krishand recently told OTTplay that the much-anticipated project is in the development/ writing stage and that the Malayalam actor has asked for some changes in the script.
“Maniyanpilla Raju sir and I are trying to get the rest of the processes done, so we can start. Lal sir has asked for some changes. When Lal sir finally likes it, we will move ahead,” Krishand told OTTplay. The upcoming film is billed as belonging to the detective-comedy genre, though the filmmaker was hesitant to divulge any more details.
For the unversed, Maniyanpilla Raju is a popular actor-producer who has acted in several hit films with Mohanlal including Minnaram.
Maniyanpilla Raju’s son Niranj is also a frequent collaborator of Krishand, having appeared as Althaf, one of the key members of the 4.5 Gang in the series.
On the other hand, Mohanlal’s most recent release was Hridayapoorvam, directed by Sathyan Anthikad. The film was released in theatres on August 28, 2025.
