Krishna Ajai Rao’s first release of the year is Sarala Subbarao, a period romantic drama directed by Manju Swaraj, known for films like Shravani Subramanya, Pataki, among others. The film was meant to be an October 2025 theatrical release, but was then postponed and has now settled on its date with audiences. The team recently revealed the release date along with the trailer, featuring Ajai and Misha Narang, for whom Sarala Subbarao will mark the Kannada cinema debut. The film will hit theatres on February 12, 2026, in time for Valentine’s Day.

Sarala Subbarao is a romantic drama set in the 70s, which is based on a popular Kannada novel called Vasanthagana, by Anusuya Shankar, better known by her penname, Triveni. The theme of the novel was sumadhura dampatya, as in, the beautiful journey of married life. It is the latest film adaptation of the late novelist, including the likes of Belli Moda, Hannele Chiguridaga, Sharapanjara, Hoovu Hannu, etc.
The film Sarala Subbarao follows the protagonists, Sarala and Subbarao, as they embark on their journey as a married couple, balancing love, traditions and aspirations. The film also stars Rangayana Raghu, Rishika Naik, Shri Mahadev, Chitkala Biradar, Veena Sundar, Vijay Chendoor, Raghu Ramanakoppa, among others, while music is by Ajaneesh Loknath.
