Golden Star Ganesh’s career got a much-needed relief with his most recent release, the romantic comedy Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi. Released in theatres on August 15, the film, which brought Malavika Nair to Kannada cinema, was a runaway hit, primarily on the strength of its hit music. Audiences were also appreciative of seeing ‘vintage Ganesh’ back on screen. Directed by Dandupalya fame Srinivasa Raju, for whom Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi was a first-time effort at making a rom-com, the film recently completed 25 days at the box office.
The film, interestingly, opened to mixed reviews, and yet did reasonably well in theatres, with the hit song Dwapara being cited as a primary reason. Earlier today, the team released the full video of this song, which, suggests that the OTT debut of the film may not be far off. According to reports, Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi has landed a streaming deal and is expected to drop on Amazon Prime Video, anytime after the 30-day mark.
Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi boasts a large ensemble cast, including Rangayana Raghu, Sadhu Kokila, Avinash, Giri Shivanna, Sharanya Shetty, Shashi Kumar, Ambuja, Shruti, Manasi Sudhir, among others. The film has music by Arjun Janya and cinematography by Venkat Rama Prasad. As far as story goes, retrograde amnesia, which was a plot point in films like Hi Nanna and Bheemasena Nala Maharaja, among others, is the central crux of Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi.
Ganesh, as business tycoon Krishna, falls in love with Pranaya (Malavika), an orphan, who runs the orphanage she grew up at. Sensing that his ultra-rich background could keep Pranaya at bay from him, Krishna pretends to be a lowly driver on the lookout for work and gets himself hired by her. The hope is that as her employee, she will get to see Krishna’s personality up close and will not judge him by his social and economic standing.
Eventually, Krishna manages to win Pranaya over, but their joy is short-lived, what with them becoming victims of violence. While they survive the attack, Krishna wakes up with retrograde amnesia, which makes him forget events in the recent past, including his relationship with Pranaya. Whether or not the duo finds their happily-ever-after is the crux of the film.
