Kristen Wiig’s new comedy to stream on Lionsgate Play app on May 14

Josh Greenbaum’s Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar will now see a digital release on Lionsgate Play. The comedy film was expected to release in theatres in July 2020, but the filmmakers had to postpone these plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After waiting for over six months, the decision of releasing the film digitally was taken.

Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar stars Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo in titular roles. The plot of this absurdist adventure follows the two best friends who leave their hometown for their first journey together. They head to Vista Del Mar in Florida for a vacation, where they find themselves entangled in romance, drama, musical numbers and a villain who is hatching an evil plot. A humorous tale of friendship and love, Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar also stars Jamie Dornan, Damon Wayans Jr and Michael Hitchcock.

According to critics, this comedy - laden with whimsical humour and silliness - has the potential to expand into a franchise. There are plenty of different plot lines and multiple characters that add more drama to the story. Wiig and Mumolo are reportedly working on a Disney movie currently, where they are exploring the story of Cinderella’s stepsisters. Deadline believes that the success of this Dinsey project might just give the duo a push to continue with a Barb and Star sequel.

Bard & Star Go to Vista Del Mar will premiere on Lionsgate Play app on May 14.
