Kumari Srimathi, Amazon Prime Video’s latest Telugu web series, is all set for its digital premiere on September 28 this week. The show comprising seven episodes is directed by Gomtesh Upadhye and headlined by Nithya Menen. Created and co-written by Srinivas Avasarala, the show is produced by Early Monsoon Tales and Swapna Cinema, a web division of the leading banner Vyjayanthi Movies.

Ahead of its arrival on the streamer, a screening of the show’s first episode was organised by the makers in Hyderabad today. The gathering was attended by the cast, crew comprising Praneeta Patnaik, Nirupam, Talluri Rameshwari, Prem Sagar, Rangasthalam Mahesh, Prem Sagar, producer Swapna Dutt, director Gomtesh and Amazon Prime Video’s Director and Head for Content Licensing.

The first episode received terrific reception from the attendees. The story revolves around Srimathi, a small-time chef in a village, who’s fighting a court battle with her uncle pertaining to an ancestral home. She has a meagre salary of Rs 13000 a month, but is full of ambition and is eager to take charge of her destiny. She is career-driven and is reluctant about marriage.

Srimathi, who’s nearing 30, is pestered by her near and dear to marry; her grandma is fully supportive of her decision unlike her mother. When the situation with her legal battle surrounding the property doesn’t seem encouraging initially, the judge surprisingly gives the family a six month window, asking them to arrange nearly Rs 35 lakh in six months. Is there light at the end of the tunnel?

The titular character comes up with a whacky idea to get past their financial crisis, leaving the family members shocked. Nithya Menen is aptly cast for her part while Srinivas Avasarala’s writing is the icing on the cake. The director has taken adequate care to establish the rooted ambience with authenticity. There’s good scope for drama to flourish, while the light-hearted treatment is its asset.

Kumari Srimathi has all the ingredients to be a pleasing, feel-good watch on OTT with friends and family. Writer Balabhadrapatruni Ramani, director Mallik Ram, Uday Aghamarshan, Kaushik Subrahmanya, Jayanth Tadinada have been involved in the story development as well. Mohana Krishna is the cinematographer while Staccato and Kamran compose the music.
