Following his role in Jewel Thief, Kunal Kapoor is preparing for another daring undertaking: Ramayana by Nitesh Tiwari. One of the most ambitious Indian film projects of late, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita, the magnum opus is taking shape. The film supposedly features Kunal Kapoor as Lord Indra.
In an interview with News18, Kunal (watch White Shirt) discussed his role in the mythological epic and how it would revolutionise the cinematic grandeur of Indian cinema. The actor remarked that there has never been a film like this one in our cultural heritage and an integral aspect of our cultural identity. He believes it's critical to have filmmakers and individuals provide the necessary scale and this is mounted at a scale never seen before.
Kunal continued by saying that it is going to be something very special that deserves the kind of movie that the story should have. About it, he's ecstatic and what people see is going to shock them, in his opinion.
Rumours had it that Yash’s Raavan and Kunal’s Indra will engage in a fierce fight scene. Despite his reluctance to confirm the sequence, the actor did hint at the magnitude of the upcoming action and spectacle. There has never been a show like this before; it will be unparalleled and unlike any ordinary event. He said that it won't be out until late next year, remaining mum on any other plot details.
The star-studded ensemble of Ramayana also features Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Sheeba Chaddha as Manthara, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, and Arun Govil as King Dasharatha.
It has been stated that the epic saga, directed by Nitesh Tiwari (watch Break Point) of critically acclaimed films like Dangal and Chillar Party, Ramayana Part 1 is set to be released during Diwali 2026 and Part 2 for Diwali 2027. Word on the street is that production will kick off for the sequel in October of this year.
