Kunchacko Boban would be the first to admit the pivotal role that Bobby, Sanjay-scripted film Traffic has played in breathing life into the second phase of his career. The team along with its producer Listin Stephen will soon begin working again on Baby Girl.
The movie, which is expected to go on floors in March, will mark Arun Varma’s second directorial after the thriller Garudan, which had Suresh Gopi and Biju Menon in the lead and released to widespread acclaim.
In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Arun tells us more about the upcoming movie. “Contrary to the title, it’s a thriller,” he says. “It’s based on multiple real-life incidents. That’s all I can say right now about the film as such.”
Though Bobby and Sanjay were given screenplay credits for Rosshan Andrrews and Shahid Kapoor’s recently released Deva, which is adapted from their own script of Mumbai Police, it’s been a while since the duo had scripted a Malayalam film. Their previous ventures – Tovino Thomas’ Kaanekkaane and Dulquer Salmaan’s Salute – were direct-to-OTT releases on Sony LIV.
“Baby Girl will mark their first script in a long time,” says Arun. “They had initially shared with me an interesting idea, which I thought was fresh. This was soon after I had completed Garudan. We worked on various drafts, before finalising it and that’s why it took so long.”
The movie also has Sangeeth Prathap, Lijomol Jose and Abhimanyu Thilakan. Though the poster hints at a police investigation, Arun doesn’t confirm if Kunchacko would be playing a cop in Baby Girl.
However, the actor will be seen wearing the khakis and boots for his upcoming release Officer on Duty, which is directed by debutant Jithu Ashraf and is scripted by Nayattu and Joseph scribe Shahi Kabir. The movie, which also has Vishak Nair, Jagadish and Priyamani, is set to hit theatres on February 20.
