The decision to defer the release was apparently made after several theatres had already begun the bookings. With Chaaver pushing its release, Mammootty starrer Kannur Squad might have an advantage at the Kerala box office that will also see Tamil films like Iraivan and Chandramukhi 2 releasing on the same day.
While the reason for delay is yet to be revealed, with the film being submitted to the CBFC today, reports suggest that the cuts suggested could be have forced the makers to push the movie’s theatrical release.
It is not the first time that the release of Chaaver has been postponed. There were rumours that the film would be released during Onam, but that too did not happen, as the team had to work on the VFX portions during its post-production.
