Kunchacko Boban and Nayanthara’s Malayalam thriller Nizhal, which released a month ago, will now be available on Amazon Prime Video from May 11 onwards.
The movie marked the debut directorial of State-Award winning editor Appu Bhattathiri and has Kunchacko Boban playing the role of a magistrate named John Baby. While recouping from a traumatic accident, he meets a young boy named Nitin, who interests him with murder stories. Eventually, John explores the possibility of Nitin’s stories by mapping the events which happen to match with the real-time incidents that took place.
The film had Kunchacko and Nayanthara teaming up almost 20 years after doing a song together in the multi-starrer Twenty-20. Nizhal was shot in Kochi and part of Karnataka after the lockdown rules were relaxed in the latter half of 2020.
Nayanthara reportedly took a pay cut to act in the Malayalam film as the industry was going through a crisis due to the lockdown and theatrical releases also looked uncertain. The film is written by S Sanjeev and also had Theevandi director Fellini TP as its creative director. Fellini and Kunchacko were shooting for Ottu in Goa when the second wave of COVID-19 gripped the country. Ottu also has Arvind Swamy and Jackie Shroff.
Incidentally, Nizhal will be the first of the two big OTT releases for Kunchacko this month. His much-acclaimed Nayattu, which is directed by Martin Prakkat and stars Joju George and Nimisha Sajayan, is set to release on Netflix by the end of May. Both Nizhal and Nayattu will reportedly be streaming on Simply South OTT for audiences abroad from May 9.
