The makers of Kunchacko Boban’s feel-good movie Padmini have decided to push the theatrical release of the movie, helmed by Senna Hegde, owing to the heavy rains in Kerala. The film, which also has Aparna Balamurali and Madonna Sebastian in the lead, was set to release worldwide on July 7.
Prasobh Krishna, one of the producers of the film, told OTTplay exclusively that the movie’s release has been postponed from July 7 to July 14 or July 21, due to the rains in Kerala the past few days. Holidays have been declared for several educational institutions and red and orange alerts have been issued in various districts across the State.
Padmini, which has Kunchacko Boban in the lead, revolves around the various incidents that happen in his character Rameshan’s life and the women in his lives. Vincy Aloshius, Ganapathy, Althaf Salim, Malavika Menon and Gokulan also play pivotal roles in the movie, which is written by Kunjiramayanam scribe Deepu Pradeep.
In a recent interview with OTTplay, Kunchacko said, “The audience will be able to instantly connect with Padmini’s content and also have a laugh about it when they think about it later. There are a lot of situational humour and it will also be a film that would let the audience relax and enjoy.”
Meanwhile, the film’s new release date means it will set up a clash between Dileep’s first theatrical release since the pandemic – Voice of Sathyanathan, which is helmed by Raffi, and Valatty: The Tale of Tails, the first Indian film to be told through the point of view of dogs. Both movies are multi-starrers and are scheduled to release on July 14, as of now.

With Padmini relinquishing the July 7 release slot, the sole release on the date will be Naslen and Nikhila Vimal’s Journey of Love 18+, which is helmed by Jo and Jo director Arun D Jose. The movie also has social media personality Saafboi and Leo actor Mathew Thomas as part of the cast.
