The trailer of the upcoming Malayalam Kurukkan was released on Wednesday. Starring Vineeth Sreenivasan, Sreenivasan and Shine Tom Chacko in the lead roles, the movie is directed by Jayalal Divakaran.

Judging from the trailer, Kurukkan seems like a dark comedy that examines the follies of our criminal justice system. At the heart of the story is an aged man named Krishnan, portrayed by legendary Sreenivasan, who has gained notoriety for being a well-known false witness. The judge, all lawyers, the cops and the media seem to know by his name. And he enjoys the reputation of getting a conviction in all cases he appears as a witness. Even though many know he's lying, the limitations of the law not just allow him to continue pushing himself in the country with impunity but also thrive. And Kirshnan's antics and his cunningness when it comes to outwitting the cross examination seems to have become a source of amusement for the court.

The film seems to follow an investigation into a murder case and Kirshnan's efforts in influencing the outcome of its trial. Vineeth Sreenivasan, the son of Sreenivasan, plays the role of a cop, who seems to be driven to madness as the murder investigation seems to spiralling out of control. Throw in the mix, a maverick performer like Shine Tom Chacko you might just get a crackling dark comedy.

Vineeth Sreenivasan channels the comedian in me as his character tries to punch above his weight and Sreenivasan seems to have brought a matured performance as a fake witness.

Kurukkan also stars Sreekanth Murali, Sudheer Karamana, Aswath Lal, Dileep Menon, Sruthi Jayan, Malavika Menon, Gouri Nanda and Sohan Seenulal among others. The film is set to arrive in cinemas this month.
