Asif Ali’s rooted-to-reality police procedural Kuttavum Shikshayum is set to get its OTT release soon. The movie, which is based on a true incident, was helmed by Rajeev Ravi and had hit theatres in May.
Now, less than a month after its theatrical release, the movie is set to drop on Netflix. Starring Asif Ali, Sharafudheen, Sunny Wayne, Alencier Ley Lopez and Senthil Krishna, the film revolves around a bunch of cops led by Asif’s character CI Sajan Philip who leave to a remote village in Rajasthan to apprehend culprits involved in a jewellery robbery.
The film is based on a real-life investigation carried out by its co-scriptwriter Sibi Thomas. While Kuttavum Shikshayum received a lukewarm response at the box office, the film was hailed for its realistic portrayal of a police investigation and the travails faced by the cops while going for assignments outside the State.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Asif said that it’s probably the most realistic movie that he has been part of. The team had filmed in Jaipur and other areas of Rajasthan in 2020 with a minimal crew, so as to not draw much attention.
For all the other films that he has been part of in his career, Asif said he would ask for the script before they began shooting so that he could go in prepared. “But what Rajeevettan gave me was a character and he would shoot the scene after discussing it with me. If I wasn’t convinced, he wouldn’t shoot it,” he said.
Kuttavum Shikshayum is currently scheduled to release on Netflix on June 24. The movie also marks Asif’s second OTT release this month. Innale Vare, which had him play an actor, had released on Sony LIV on June 9. The Jis Joy film, which is a thriller, also has Antony Varghese and Nimisha Sajayan as part o the cast.
