Smriti Irani is back as Tulsi Virani. A new promotional video for Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi has returned the beloved character to Indian television after an absence of more than ten years. In the new video, Irani effortlessly reprises her character, fusing a sense of nostalgia with a contemporary take on evolving values and familial bonds.
At the beginning of the more than minute-long promo, we see Tulsi at her laptop. As she does so, she brings back memories of the people in her family who became household names and the hardships they endured. As she makes a rangoli and lights a lamp, she continues to emphasise the significance of principles and values, a theme that was carried throughout the original series.
Showing the show's enduring focus on family values like respect and tradition, Tulsi also honours Baa, the oldest member of the Virani family. As the promo goes on, Tulsi briefly mentions how ideals change throughout time but are still important. She says, "Phir aa rahi hai Tulsi aapke aangan mein khilne" (Tulsi is coming back to bloom in your courtyard once again), ending the promo on a positive note.
"Badalte waqt mein ek naye nazariye ke saath laut rahi hai Tulsi! Unke iss naye safar mein judne ke liye kya aap hain taiyyar?" (In changing times, Tulsi is returning with a new perspective! Are you ready to join her on this new journey?) is the caption that goes along with the promo.
Star Plus and JioHotstar (OTTplay Premium) will both air the show's premiere on July 29 at 10:30 PM. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, one of the longest-running Indian television shows, originally aired from 2000 to 2008. It had more than 1,800 episodes. The Virani family's lavish lifestyle was at the centre of the Ekta Kapoor-created family drama, which featured Smriti Irani, Amar Upadhyay, Apara Mehta, and Hiten Tejwani.
With its 25th anniversary coming up on June 3, the show's return is met with great anticipation. Speaking to PTI about her return, Irani said, "In contributing to this next chapter, I hope to honour the legacy of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and help shape a future where India’s creative industries aren’t just celebrated but truly empowered."
She continued by saying that going back to Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is more than just reprising an old part; it's reliving a tale that changed the face of Indian television and my own life. It was more than just commercial achievement; it wove the actor into the fabric of a generation's emotions and connected her to millions of households. Irani shared that not only is she coming back as an actor, but she's also coming back as someone who thinks stories can change, preserve culture, and build empathy.
Fans of the original series are eagerly anticipating Tulsi's return to the screen, wondering how the story will incorporate modern topics while staying true to its emotional essence.
