L2 Empuraan: Fighter actor Behzaad Khan joins Mohanlal-Prithviraj Sukumaran's film; role revealed

Since Sunday, Prithviraj Sukumaran has been teasing audiences with two characters daily who play pivotal roles in his upcoming directorial, L2: Empuraan. The highly anticipated Mohanlal-led film will mark the debut of the latest entrant in South Indian cinema. Behzaad Khan, known for his role as Pakistani Wing Commander Imran Rasool "Red Nose" in the Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone-starrer Fighter (2024), will next be seen in L2: Empuraan.

Behzaad Khan joins L2: Empuraan

Khan, who plays a pivotal role in the film as a terrorist leader named Salabath Hamza, shared insights about his character preparation and experience working under Prithviraj’s direction. Speaking about his role, he said, "The role I'm playing in this movie is that of a terrorist leader. And... his name is Salabath Hamza. He's a very dark character. As an actor, your voice, your face, and your body language are your biggest assets. And I've worked for several years, so what happens is that when you get a brief about your character, whether it's a small role or a big one, whether the screen time is short or long, the preparation you do as an actor matters a lot, as it comes through clearly on screen.

The actor went on to share, "When I was briefed about the character, I wrote a small backstory for the character. I worked on how his voice would sound, how I could create an impact through it, and by God's grace, I have a pretty decent voice. When you work on your voice, and you work on your craft, these things really show and I used a heavy bass voice for this character. So, I think that really works for it."

Praising Prithviraj Sukumaran's directorial approach

Expressing his admiration for Prithviraj's directorial style, Khan praised the actor-filmmaker’s ability to guide actors effectively. "After working on the project and being directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, I mean, he is... I have to say he's currently one of the best creative minds. He's an actor, he's a producer, he's a director, and he's an actor's director... He makes you comfortable. It was my first day of shooting, and I had never worked on a South Indian film before this. So, I was a little sceptical, a little nervous, but he made me comfortable and he guided me through the character. Because the version of the character that exists in the director's mind... it becomes so much easier for an actor to portray that on screen when you get proper guidance on that, and he's really good at that. So, I really enjoyed working with him."

Khan’s performance in L2: Empuraan is expected to add another layer of intensity to the film, which serves as the sequel to Lucifer (2019). With Mohanlal reprising his role as Khureshi-Ab'ram, the film has already garnered massive anticipation.

L2: Empuraan gears up for its grand release on March 27, 2025.
