UK’s secret intelligence service MI:6, African cartels and an infamous nexus that controls the global gold and diamond trade – Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal, has all of this and more, the actor-director revealed in his latest character video that was revealed by the team.
While introducing his character of Zayed Masood, who leads the hit force of Khureshi Ab’raam’s gang, Prithviraj said, “In Lucifer, you were introduced to Zayed only as the mercenary commando of the infamous nexus of Khureshi Ab’raam who controls the world’s gold and diamond trade. Like every character in this franchise, scripted by Murali Gopy, Zayed also has a past, a backstory about a world that was his. You would briefly get to know what that is and how Khureshi Ab’raam become a part of that through Empuraan in the Lucifer franchise.”
Prithviraj Sukumaran on L2 Empuraan’s plot
The filmmaker, who has teamed up with Mohanlal for his earlier directorials Lucifer and Bro Daddy, also explained how he sees the second instalment of the Lucifer franchise, Empuraan.
“In Lucifer, you have seen a complex world filled with a lot of characters and the dynamics between them. In Empuraan, this will increase further and you will also see the backdrop become bigger. That said, amid all this, we believe there’s a coherent narrative to this story,” he said. “Lucifer ends by making us believe that there isn’t a bigger force in this world that can go against Khureshi Ab’raam. Was that the truth or was it a misplaced assumption?”
The team has already introduced the major characters from the film, which includes returning cast members such as Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier and Tovino Thomas as well as new additions such as Game of Thrones actor Jerome Flynn, Eriq Ebuoaney, Kishore and Abhimanyu Singh.
L2 Empuraan release plans
The movie is expected to be the biggest Malayalam release ever, with it set to play in close to 700 screens in Kerala itself on March 27, with close to 4000 shows on the day. The film will also get simultaneous release across the world, and industry insiders are already counting on it breaking multiple opening-day records in Malayalam cinema.
