Laal Singh Chaddha is one of the most-anticipated Indian movies set to release this year. With Aamir Khan headlining the movie and it being the Hindi remake of Forrest Gump, there is a lot of attention on the movie. Atul Kulkarni, who has written that movie, has now revealed that he completed the movie’s script in 15 days.

Atul Kulkarni, who is making his writing debut with the remake, told PTI that he and Aamir ended up talking about Forrest Gump at the after-party of Aamir Khan’s production Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and then he decided he should rewatch the classic.

“So, I started taking notes and after an hour or two I thought why not attempt the script? I finished writing the script in 10 days and within two-three days I was done with the second draft. In 14-15 days, the script was ready,” he told PTI as reported by The Indian Express.

He also said that the original cannot be translated and needs to be adapted and that every word was a challenge because it was a ‘beautiful’ screenplay. He added that everything is ‘indianised” in the remake and that it is a very desi film made for Indian viewers.

Directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Eric Roth, Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks hit theatres in 1986. The coming-of-age film follows an innocent kid as he grows up in the United States and accidentally becomes part of some historic moments.

The Hindi remake is directed by Advait Chandan and is bankrolled by Aamir Khan Productions and Viacom18 Studios. Also starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, the movie is set to hit theatres on August 11.
