Director Arunraja Kamaraj's maiden web series Label is all set to drop on Disney + Hotstar. The ten-episode series stars Jai, Tanya Hope, Mahendran, Harishankar Narayanan, Subatra Robert and Suresh Chakravarthy among others.
Series set in north Chennai
It looks like the series is set in north Chennai, which has been the backdrop of a majority of Tamil movies for the last two decades. However, there has been many negative connotations about the area in the films, which has been associated with the working class people of Chennai. People hailing from the localities have been having a tough time even finding jobs as they have been labelled problematic.
The story explores how certain localities are branded as problematic
Going by the trailer, the series explores the very same label. A scene in a classroom where a child asks his teacher, 'is it wrong to believe that everyone who hails from the locality is like that' is testimony to that. Jai, who plays a lawyer in the film, also hails from the same locality and has worked from the ground up to be what he is today and fights against the injustices perpetrated on the people from the community there.
Jai's web series debut
This is the first time that Jai will be seen in a web series and in a very serious role at that. The trailer has already become a hit among the audience. The last time we saw Jai on screen was in the romantic drama Theera Kadhal. However, it would be interesting to see in the avatar of a lawyer who fights for the marginalised.
Arjunraja Kamaraj's effective direction
Arunraja Kamaraj has emerged as a power-packed storyteller with Kanaa and Nenjukku Needhi. And with Label, the filmmaker is once again set to prove his storytelling prowess.
Technical crew
While Sam CS has composed the music, Dinesh Krishnan is in charge of the cinematography and Raja Arumugam is handling the editing. Vinoth Rajkumar is in charge of the art direction, and Jeyachandra Hashmi is the writer. Arunraja Kamaraj has also penned the songs in the series. Label is bankrolled by Muthamizh Padaippagam Productions in collaboration with ARK Entertainment.
