Sargun Mehta and Amrinder Gill, who previously worked together in the 2016 family drama, Love Punjab, teamed up again in the romantic drama Lahoriye, the very next year, in 2017. This Punjabi movie is set during the historic India-Pakistan partition era, depicting an enduring love story. Sargun plays the role of Ameeran, bringing her character to life amidst the backdrop of this significant period in history. After eight long years, Lahoriye is finally making its digital debut on Chuapal and OTTplay Premium this June 2025.
The Punjabi romance drama, Lahoriye, is releasing on June 26, 2025. The movie also features Amberdeep Singh, Gugu Gill, Nimrat Khaira, Yuvraj Hans, Normal Rishi, Sardar Sohi, Hobby Dhaliwal, Rajiv Thakur, Sandeep Malhi, and Balwinder Bego.
The Punjabi romance drama introduces Kikkar Singh, a young Sikh determined man, and Ameeran, a Muslim free-spirited woman, who find love in each other despite coming from different family backgrounds and religions. While Kikkar belongs from Punjab, Ameeran is from Lahore.
However, Kikkar and Ameeran's happiness gets shattered by the sudden partition, a time when India and Pakistan were getting divided. This terrible event forces Kikkar and Ameeran apart, and they are separated by the chaos and violence that ensued.
The Punjabi romance drama bagged 16 prestigious awards in different categories including the Best Actor at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards in the year 2018. According to the makers, the idea of Lahoriye came to their minds while filming Love Punjab only.
The shooting of Love Punjab had taken place near the border. Some news reports say, a close person told the director, “Our farm was close to the border and a wire was drawn to separate the area from each other. When we used to go for farming the army man used to go with us. Sometimes, people from across the border used to call us to come and have tea or lassi.” Listening to this, the director Ambardeep Singh thought of the idea to make Lahoriye as soon as possible.
