Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria leads a new comedy drama called Land of Women, which also stars Carmen Maura, Victoria Bazua and Santiago Cabrera, among others. The 6-episode series is based on award-winning author Sandra Barneda’s best-selling novel, La Tierra de las Mujeres, which was first published a decade ago. The show will premiere with a two-episode drop on June 26 on Apple TV+, followed by weekly episodes every Wednesday.

Land of Women follows Eva Longoria as Gala Scott, an upscale New Yorker, whose life is turned upside down when her husband, Fred (James Purefoy), implicates the family in financial improprieties to the tune of 15 million dollars. When the guys Fred was in business with pay Gala a visit, she is forced to flee the city with her aging mother (Maura) and teenage daughter (Bazúa).

To get away from the dangerous criminals, the three women head to a wine town in northern Spain, which, incidentally, Gala’s mother had fled 50 years ago. As the women hide out and try to start anew, they realize that keeping their identities secret in a small town is not easy, what with gossip spreading fast and some deep family secrets also coming to the fore.

Besides Land of Women, Eva will also be seen in a recurring role in Only Murders in the Building, which is returning for a fourth season on August 27 on Hulu. In India the show will be available on Disney+ Hotstar. Carmen Maura, meanwhile, is a famed Spanish actress, who has won multiple Goya Awards for Best Leading Actress, which is Spain’s national film awards.

Land of Women is the latest show that Apple TV has added to its June roster. Starting on June 12 is the Jake Gyllenhaal-led Presumed Innocent, followed by the animated sci-fi fantasy series Wondla on June 28. Also coming to the streamer in June is Fancy Dance, a drama by Erica Tremblay, featuring Lily Gladstone, Isabel DeRoy-Olson and Shea Whigham, among others.
