The trailer of Bell Bottom was released on YouTube on Tuesday and is garnering massive acclaim. While Akshay Kumar hogs the limelight, Lara Dutta Bhupathi steals the show as the powerful political figure and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The actor called the role 'an opportunity of a lifetime' at the trailer launch of the film held in Delhi. Stating that it is very important to get the body language right, Lara said, "It is a great responsibility when you portray someone who's an iconic figure like Mrs Gandhi."

Set in 1984, the movie covers the time post the Emergency and Indira Gandhi's assassination too. Bell Bottom is about a hijack that took place while she was still ruling over India.

Lara cleared that a lot of homework and research went into the role, especially since Indira Gandhi was at the centre of the event.

Bell Bottom marks Lara's 10th film with Akshay, where they both played pivotal roles. She made her debut in Bollywood with Akshay in the 2003 release Andaaz co-starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

Directed by Ranjit M Tewari, Bell Bottom is produced by Pooja Entertainment and Emmay Entertainment. The film will be the first theatre-only release since the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic hit earlier this year. The makers announced the same amid speculations of the film's OTT release.
