The country is mourning the loss of the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who millions have dubbed as the ‘Nightingale of India’. With thousands pouring in with memories and tributes to the singer, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has revealed the singer had agreed to sing for his upcoming movie.

Talking in an interview with Times Now, the director said, “We wanted her to sing a song for The Kashmir Files and last year we requested her, and she said she had stopped singing for films or commercial ventures. But she loved Kashmir so much, she said she will make an exception for the film, but she requested to do it after the COVID wave subsides,”

The filmmaker also shared an experience where he and his wife Pallavi were out on a trip in Scandinavia, and there was a time where the sun would not set the entire night, so they listened to Lata Mangeshkar looking at the colourful sky. He added that day he experienced the divine and that if there is a god, Lata Mangeshkar is her voice.

Agnihotri is one among the many celebrities that have taken to social media or other means to mourn the loss of one of India’s most celebrated singers. The 92 year old singer passed away due to multi-organ failure today.

Agnihotri is currently working on The Kashmir Files starring Mithun Chakraborty and Anupam Kher and tells the tale of the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in the early 1990's due to Kashmir Insurgency.

He had previously in 2019 directed The Tashkent Files, a thriller that followed a story about the death of former Indian prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The film won two National Film Awards for Best Dialogues and Best Supporting Actress.
