The 1990 Kannada action film SP Sangliyana Part 2 was the sequel to the 1988 original Sangliyana. Regarded as one of the best sequels in Kannada cinema, the film, directed by P Nanjundappa, who passed away prior to its release, had Shankar Nag in the title role. He was paired with Shivaranjani in the film, which became a massive box office hit, making more money than the original.

Produced by Swarnagiri Movies and with music by Hamsalekha, the film was one of the last major releases of its lead actor, who passed away in September 1990 following a fatal car accident. SP Sangliyana Part 2 had a massive ensemble cast including Devaraj, Ashok, Mukhyamantri Chandru, Vajramuni, Master Manjunath, Jai Jagadish, Shashikumar, Lohithashwa, Avinash and Sudhir, among many others. Director Nanjundappa also had a brief appearance in the film. This was his third collaboration with Shankar, after Sangliyana and CBI Shankar.

The 115-minute-long film is now getting re-released. Today, SP Sangliyana Part 2 has got a limited release in Bengaluru. A few days ago, Master Manjunath had announced the same on social media, writing, “Shankar Nag sir - S. P. Sangliana 2 (released in 1990) will be on the big screen on 18.11.2022. Super hit movie in which Karate King Shankar Nag sir has acted as a police officer.”

The film’s story follows honest police officer Sangliyana, whose life goes topsy-turvy after he dares to arrest the daughter of a gangster. The film is available to stream on Jio Cinema and Eros Now.

A third instalment in the series was made later in 1997 with Devaraj in the lead, but that film failed to make an impression.
