It’s the week that Kannada audiences were eagerly waiting for a very long time, only to have their hopes dashed. April 10 was when KGF-star Rocking Star Yash’s next, Toxic was to be in theatres, but delays in production have pushed it ahead by a year. Instead, there are a bunch of films across languages headed audiences’ way in theatres, none of which have been dubbed for Kannada audiences.

From Good Bad Ugly to Jack, Bazooka, Alappuzha Gymkhana, Maranamass and Jaat are joining 3 original Kannada films in theatres this week. As for OTT, Prajwal Devaraj’s horror flick is the original offering, apart from dubbed titles like Court – State vs A Nobody, Pravinkoodu Shaapu, Perusu, among others.

Vidyapati

Tagaru fame Daali Dhananjaya ’s fourth production venture is a comedy called Vidyapati, feauturing Nagabhushana in the lead and directed by Esham and Haseen, who’d earlier made Ikkat. Nagabhushana plays the spoilt rich husband of a superstar actress, who is faced with a certain conflict. How he finds his way out of it forms the crux of the tale. Upadhyaksha fame Malaika Vasupal is the heroine, while KGF’s Garuda Ram is the villain in the tale.

Vaamana

Dhanveeraah, who was last seen in the period drama Kaiva, headlines this action entertainer directed by Shankar Raman S. Not much is known about the plot of the film, but going by the trailer, it will be quite action packed. Reeshma Nanaiah, who debuted with Ek Love Ya, will be seen as the romantic interest, while Tara plays Dhanveeraah’s mother.

Agnyathavasi

Sapta Sagaradaache Ello maker Hemanth M Rao and Gultoo director Janardhan Chikkanna collaborate as producer and director, respectively, on the murder mystery set in 90s Malnad. Cyanide fame Rangayana Raghu is in the lead of the film, which also stars Pavana Gowda, Siddu Moolimani, Sharath Lohithashwa, Ravishankar Gowda and Arvind Kuplikar.

Rakshasa

Horror specialist Lohith H, better known for films like Mummy Save Me and Devaki, collaborated with Gentleman actor Prajwal Devaraj on a scary movie called Rakshasa . Lohith blended horror with a time loop element in this tale about a demon running amok in a police station.

Court State vs A Nobody
Court State vs A Nobody

Court – State vs A Nobody

Director Ram Jagadeesh’s film follows the fallout of an inter-caste relationship, with the upper class girl’s family framing the boy in a POCSO case and then exerting pressure on lawyers to not take up his case. When a junior advocate takes up the case in a classic David vs Goliath scenario, the narrative heats up. Starring Priyadarshi in the lead, the film was presented in theatres by Nani. Film will stream with Kannada audio.

Pravinkoodu Shappu

Kadina Kadoramee Andakadaham’s Basil Joseph joins Soubin Shahir, Chemban Vinod, Shabareesh Varma, Shivajith, Chandini Sreedharan, among many others, in an investigation into a murder at a local toddy shop. Film will stream with Kannada audio.
