Amadeus - December 22 (JioHotstar [OTTplay Premium])

image_item

In a "playfully reimagined" adaptation of Peter Shaffer's Tony-winning play, Amadeus follows the mythical rise and fall of the great musician Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart over the course of five episodes. In this historical drama, played by Will Sharpe, we follow a young Mozart (25 years old) as he moves to Vienna in search of artistic independence in the 18th century. Along the way, he crosses paths with Antonio Salieri, a pious and well-established court composer (Paul Bettany). Mozart overcomes his inner demons and the conservative court's mistrust to achieve enormous success, while Salieri is haunted by his rival's apparently heavenly gift, which he takes as a personal attack from God. Intertwined in a web of court intrigue, ambition, and a desperate murder confession, their legacies are consumed by a terrible fixation that begins as professional envy and continues for decades.

Andhra King Taluka - December 25 (Netflix)

As "the biography of a fan", the touching Telugu drama Andhra King Taluka follows Sagar (Ram Pothineni), an ardent supporter of superstar Surya Kumar (Upendra), affectionately called the "Andhra King" by his legion of dedicated fans. With a throwback setting in a small Godavari village in the early 2000s, the movie follows Surya as his landmark 100th film experiences a severe financial crisis due to a series of disappointing box office receipts. Sagar is a regular young man who has overcome social class boundaries and personal concerns through cinema; Surya follows him in his quest to identify his benefactor after he unexpectedly invests ₹3 crores to rescue the movie. The plot revolves around Sagar's romantic involvement with Mahalakshmi (Bhagyashri Borse) and his lofty goal of constructing a 70mm theatre in his hamlet. It also examines the deep and mutually beneficial bond between an idol and the admirers who derive personal strength from them.

Dramatic spy thriller The Copenhagen Test stars Simu Liu as intelligence analyst Alexander Hale, a first-generation Chinese-American. He learns that someone has hacked into his brain and is transmitting his every thought and action to an anonymous source. Hale finds himself in a precarious situation, constantly monitored by both his secretive agency, which holds him in high suspicion for treason, and the hackers who threaten to take his mind captive. To stay alive and find those responsible, he has to keep up an immaculate "performance" of his everyday life around the clock. The pressure turns every interaction into a risky double-cross, and he starts to lose sight of the boundary between his real and manufactured selves.

Cover-Up - December 25 (Netflix)

Laura Poitras and Mark Obenhaus' riveting political documentary Cover-Up follows Pulitzer Prize–winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh throughout his remarkable six-decade career. The film follows Hersh as he goes on a mission to expose the CIA's domestic spying programs, Abu Ghraib's torture revelations, the Watergate scandal, the My Lai massacre in Vietnam, and more through a combination of exclusive interviews, carefully restored archival footage, and access to Hersh's personal notes. This documentary reflects on Hersh's career and examines the complex dynamics of institutional violence and the "cycle of impunity" within the US government. The 88-year-old Hersh is portrayed as a stingy, unyielding watchdog who, in this age of growing secrecy, persists in challenging official narratives.

Adaa, who is determined not to play the victim, issues a public challenge in response to the escalating confrontation, sending the two protagonists on a downward spiral of vengeance, emotional self-destruction, and inflated egos.

Her four adult siblings, Connor (Johnny Flynn), a sensitive and caring son; Julia (Winslet), a resentful stay-at-home mom (Molly) (Riseborough); and Helen, a New Age life coach (Collette), are forced to gather at her bedside as her cancer suddenly declines, right before the holidays. The documentary takes viewers on a journey from the playground to the recording studio, where they can hear the aspirations, imagination, and occasionally overwhelming pressure that go into making the music that adults despise but kids can't get enough of. Performers like Anthony Field, Caspar Babypants (Chris Ballew), and Divinity Roxx are among those featured.

Despite her icy and professional demeanour in court, Se-na lives a secret life as a passionate "superfan" of the Gold Boys' Do Ra-ik (Kim Jae-young). The arrest of Ra-ik as the main suspect in a murder case brings her two worlds together, and Se-na must risk her reputation to establish his innocence. As her defence begins, she is taken aback to learn that her "angelic" idol is actually quite unpleasant in real life. After an unexplained death occurred on the property, the retired soldier who owns it gained a terrifying reputation among the locals as a haunted house. The trio's suspicion is shaken when a group of girls show up for the album shoot, and one of them is haunted by a terrible encounter in a claimed "safe" room. At first, they dismissed the ghost stories as mere superstitious rumours. As they race to determine whether the danger is genuinely supernatural or a more grounded human deceit, the friends are forced to navigate a web of secrets and survive as the incident triggers a series of strange, unexplainable happenings.

Played by Bob Odenkirk, Nobody 2 follows the reformed "auditor" Hutch Mansell as he juggles his home life with a punishing return to black-ops employment, carrying out high-stakes kills to settle a $30 million debt with the Russian mafia.
