This week for Tamil cinema has been a lull, given major films and shows are releasing end of this month. However, that being said, a handful of releases are targeting towards OTT releases this week. Officer On Duty – Netflix (March 20)
Directed by Jithy Ashraf, the film features Kunchacko Boban as a demoted officer investigating fake gold chains, leading to a drug network targeting teens. The Malayalam film will be also be available in Tamil with English subtitles. Officer On Duty is one of the highest grossing Malayalam films so far in 2025. The ensemble cast also includes actors Jagadish, Priyamani, Vishak Nair, and Aadukalam Naren among others.
Madurai Paiyanum Chennai Ponnum – Aha Tamil (ongoing)
Madurai Paiyanum Chennai Ponnum is an ongoing web series. Starring Kanna Ravi and Angelin in the lead roles, it is a perfect blend of comedy, emotions, and Tamil culture. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Tamil Nadu, Madurai Paiyanum Chennai Ponnum is a heartwarming rom-com that explores the cultural and personal differences between a Madurai boy and a Chennai girl. The romantic comedy-drama series is directed by Vignesh Pazhanivel.
Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam - Prime Video (March 21) tentative
Actor Dhanush helmed his third film Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam, a young romance drama starring a bunch of newcomers. The film features Anikha Surendran, Matthew Thomas, Priya Prakash Varrier, Rabiya Khatoon, Ramya Ranganathan and Venkatesh Menon, along with senior actors like Sarathkumar, Naren, and Saranya Ponvannan. NEEK revolves around two young sweethearts who break up due to issues, and one of them ends up attending the wedding of the other.
Fire – Tentkotta (TBD)
Fire is a romantic crime thriller, written and directed by JSK Sathish Kumar who also produced the film. The film stars Balaji Murugadoss in the lead role, alongside Chandini Tamilarasan, Rachitha Mahalakshmi, Sakshi Agarwal and Gayathri Shan playing important roles.
