Latest Tamil OTT releases (May 19-May 25) to watch on Prime Video, JioHotstar, Netflix, Sony LIV, theatres and more

As we are almost halfway through 2025, and Tamil cinema has already seen some big releases, notable films as well as a fair share of disappointments. As audience are gearing up for the release of Thug Life from Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam on June 5, here are some of the releases this week that you can stream and watch in theatres.

Sumo – SunNXT/ OTTplay Premium (May 23)

Sumo is sports comedy film starring Mirchi Shiva, Priya Anand, Yoshinori Tashiro, VTV Ganesh, Chetan, Besant Ravi, Srinath, Yogi Babu and others. The film is directed by SP Hosimin and revolves around a sumo who gets washed up ashore in Chennai. After a local surfer takes care of him, he gets to know the sumo’s past in Japan.

Vallamai – Aha Tamil/ OTTplay Premium (May 23)

Vallamai is written and directed by Karuppaiyaa Murugan and stars Premgi Amaren, Deepa Shankar, and others. It is a crime drama and explores a sexual assault and the fight for justice.

Ace – Theatres (May 23)

Ace is an upcoming black comedy film starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role. Directed by Aarumugakumar who has previously worked with the Super Deluxe actor in Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren, Ace marks the debut of Kannada actor Rukmini Vasanth, and also features Yogi Babu, Divya Pillai, Babloo Prithveeraj, BS Avinash, Muthu Kumar, Raj Kumar, Denes Kumar, and others. Ace is set primarily in Malayasia.

Heart Beat S2 – JioHotstar (May 22)

Heart Beat is a Tamil medical drama series, with the first season already having about 100 episodes. Set within a multi-specialty hospital, the series explores the personal and professional lives of the doctors, nurses and others who work there. Written and directed by Deepak Sundarrajan, the series features Anumol, Deepa Balu, Tourist Family fame Yogalakshmi, and others. Four new episodes will be dropping every week.

Myyal - Theatres (May 23)

Myyal is an upcoming Tamil romantic thriller directed by APG Elumalai, with a story by Jeyamohan. Starring Sethu who acted in Mynaa, along with Samriddhi Tara, and others. The film is set against the backdrop of mountainous region and explores the love story of two individuals who come from underprivileged backdrops.
