In what could be said as a sad day for Indian cinema, legendary director K Vishwanath passed away a short while ago in Hyderabad. He was 92 and was suffering from age related issues and breathed his last at his residence in Hyderabad. This news has come in as a shock as just a few days back, he was seen giving an interview to a local TV channel.

The legendary director started his career in 1951 as an assistant director in the Telugu-Tamil Film Pathala Bhairavi. In 1965, Viswanath debuted as a director with Telugu film Aatma Gowravam. After making a string of films, he became a star director with the award winning classic Sankarabharanam, which is still considered to be one of his best works.

Viswanath has made many films dealing with a wide range of human and social issues: Saptapadi, Sirivennela, Sutradharulu, Subhalekha, Sruthilayalu, Subha Sankalpam, Aapadbandhavudu, Swayam Krushi, and Swarnakamalam have lead characters representing different strata of society. Some of his best works included Swathi Kiranam, Swathi Muthyam, Swayamkrushi, SiriVennela, Sagara Sangamam and many more.

K Vishwanath also directed Hindi films like Eshwar, Sanjog, Sur Sangam, Sangeet, Dhanwan and many more. The entire film industry is paying rich tribute to this legend who has won several national and international awards. He has a close association with the likes of Chiranjeevi and Kamal Haasan. New age directors like Trivikram consider K Vishwanath as their Guru. His funeral will be held tomorrow as per the news. Well, we at OTTplay convey rich tributes to his family for their loss.
