Malayalam actress Lenaa’s film Article 21, which has been in the works for the past few years, is finally set to hit theatres. The movie had caught attention after the actress had released her look from it before the pandemic.
Helmed by Lenin Balakrishnan, the film is said to be based on a socially-relevant subject and has Lenaa playing the role of Thamarai, a Tamil rag picker. In the poster that was released, Lenaa is seen in a rugged appearance, smoking and drinking, while also reflecting the setting of a slum and its unhygienic conditions. As the title conveys, the movie is expected to discuss the fundamental right of Article 21, which guarantees the right to life for every citizen.
Sandeep Nandakumar is the film’s editor while Ashkar has cranked the camera. Ranganeeth Ravi, who worked as the sound designer in Churuli, is also part of the film. Apart from Lenaa, Joju George, Aju Varghese and Bineesh Kodiyeri will also be seen in key roles in the movie.
In an earlier interview with Times of India, Lenaa expressed that the role of Thamarai has been one of the most demanding and challenging characters she has played so far. She described the character as “raw and grounded” and admitted the portrayal was an uphill task.
The actress was lately seen in films such as Anuragam, Ennalum Ente Aliya and Oh My Darling, which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Meanwhile, her next movie to hit theatres will be Olam, in which she will be featured alongside Arjun Ashokan. The movie, helmed by debutant VS Abhilash, also marks Lenaa’s foray as a scenarist. Olam is touted to be a suspense thriller with elements of fantasy. The initial release date of the film was July 7, which later got pushed to August 4, 2023.
