Vijay's eagerly awaited action thriller Leo released in theatres on Thursday and had the biggest global opening of the year among all Indian films. According to the movie’s production house, Seven Screen Studio, Leo made an impressive Rs 148.5 crore in worldwide box office earnings on its opening day. On the other hand, Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan made Rs 129.1 crore on its opening day. With a pan-Indian release, Jawan currently holds the title of the highest-grossing film of the year across all languages in India. Director Atlee's movie has made a massive Rs 1140.5 crore at the worldwide box office. Following closely behind is Rajinikanth's Jailer, which raked in over Rs 72 crore on its opening day.

Leo vs Jawan vs Jailer: The collection so far

Following a record-breaking start at the box office, Vijay’s Leo saw a significant decline in its collections on the second day. According to industry analyst Sacnilk, there is a chance of a slight improvement on the third day.

He added that the film’s second-day collections dropped to Rs 36 crore, which was a 44% decrease. However, on the third day the film is expected to make Rs 38.73 crore in the domestic market, increasing the domestic haul to Rs 140.41 crore.

Jawan and Jailer’s Day 3 collections

According to Red Chillies Entertainment, Jawan earned a gross box office revenue of Rs 384.69 crore worldwide in the first three days of its release. Following Jawan is Jailer, which collected Rs 35 crore in box office revenue. The film is currently the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year, with a collection of Rs 604.25 crore worldwide. Hence, it remains to be seen if Lokesh Kanagaraj's action thriller Leo can outperform Jailer.

Vijay’s Leo rules at the box office despite mixed reviews

Despite Leo pre-release hype and the film opening to packed houses, it received mixed reviews from audiences and critics alike. Many viewers expressed their disappointment with the second half of the film for its screenplay. But despite mixed reviews, Lokesh Kanagaraj's film continues to not only rule domestically but has also emerged as the highest-grossing film of 2023 in several overseas locations like the UK and Gulf. It has the highest number for a Kollywood film.
