Thalapathy Vijay's latest movie Leo is showing no signs of fatigue in cinemas. The movie particularly is dominating the cinemas across Kerala. The movie has shattered the collection records of previous Tamil blockbusters in the state, setting a new box office benchmark.

In its five days, Leo has earned a whopping Rs 40 crore from its ticket sales in the state alone. It has surpassed the lifetime gross of Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan's previous blockbuster Vikram at the Kerala box office.

Vikram, which was also directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, became one of the biggest Tamil earners in Kerala last year. However, the movie's records were broken by Superstar Rajinikanth's Jailer earlier this year as it raked in more than Rs 50 crore, cashing in on the Onam festival holidays. And now Vijay's Leo has exceeded expectations by making a record collection in such a short span.

Leo had a terrific opening in Kerala by grossing over Rs 12 crore. This was the biggest-ever opening for a movie in the history of the Kerala box office. Kannada blockbuster KGF: Chapter 2 held the top position till recently with a Rs 7.3 crore opening collection. And Leo rewrote the rules of the game by doing some unprecedented box office numbers.

Leo has set a new box office benchmark not just for the Tamil films in Kerala. But, even for the Malayalam film industry. From now on, a movie's success at the Kerala box office will be measured against Leo's.

After earning over Rs 12 crore on its first day, the movie earned Rs 5.85 crore on its second day, Rs 7 crore on its third day and Rs 8 crore and Rs 7.15 crore on its fourth and fifth days respectively, taking its grand total to over Rs 40 crore.
