Netflix's latest Tamil offering Leo, starring Thalapathy Vijay, is now available for streaming for audiences outside India. The film premiered on Netflix in India on November 24, a little over a month following its theatrical debut. However, its global availability was delayed until November 28.
Leo is streaming in all major Indian languages, including Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi.
Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj wrote and directed Leo. Before the film's release, many speculated that Leo was a remake of filmmaker David Cronenberg's award-winning film A History of Violence. And Lokesh also willfully refrained from issuing any clarification on the matter. He refused to discuss theories and rumours about Leo to avoid the risk of spoiling the pre-release hype around the film.
Following the release of the film, it was clear that Leo was loosely inspired by the popular graphic book novel, A History of Violence.
Leo narrates the story of a seemingly harmless coffee shop owner living a peaceful life among the snow-covered mountains of Himachal Pradesh. However, his life spirals out of control, when his pictures get published in newspapers.
With popularity comes unwanted attention, threatening the safety of his family. And when the ordinary man is pushed to the edge, he is forced to unveil extraordinary skills hidden in him.
Leo was released in cinemas last month to packed houses. Despite receiving mixed reactions, Leo managed to shatter box office records of previous Tamil blockbusters, including Superstar Rajinikanth's Jailer.
Leo became the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023 by raking in more than Rs 610 crore from its worldwide ticket sales.
Besides Vijay, Leo also stars Sanjay Dutt, Trisha, Arjun, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mysskin, Mansoor Ali Khan and Priya Anand.
