Don't Look Up, Adam McKay's climate change satire, is at the top of Netflix's global watching list for the week of December 27-January 2, clocking 152.29 million hours worldwide.

According to Netflix figures obtained by Deadline, at a time when apocalyptic films are breaking box office records, the Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence starrer is the third-most-watched film of all time (in just its first 28 days), trailing only Sandra Bullock's Bird Box and Dwayne Johnson-Ryan Reynolds-Gal Gadot crime caper Red Notice.

It has also become the film with the most viewing hours for a single film in a single week in Netflix history. Just a few days ago, director McKay tweeted that he was "straight up flabbergasted" by the film's popularity.

Don't Look Up, according to Deadline, is likely to be encroaching on Bird Box territory and could soon take the record away from Red Notice. However, Netflix does not release day-to-day data.

Don't Look Up also stars Meryl Streep as a bumbling American President, Cate Blanchett as a celebrity talk show co-host who pines after DiCaprio's character, and Dr. Randall Mindy, a Michigan State University astronomy professor (MSU).

Himesh Jitendra Patel, who was last seen in Tenet, plays the lover of Jennifer Lawrence's character, MSU astronomy PhD candidate and comet discoverer Kate Dibiasky, in the film.

In Don't Look Up, Dibiasky (Lawrence), an astronomy graduate student, and her professor Dr Mindy (DiCaprio) discover a comet orbiting within the solar system. The issue is that it is on a collision course with Earth. What about the other issue? Nobody appears to be concerned. It turns out that warning humanity about a planet-killer the size of Mount Everest is a difficult fact to navigate. With the assistance of Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan), Kate and Randall embark on a media tour that takes them from the office of an apathetic President Orlean (Streep) and her sycophantic son and Chief of Staff, Jason (Jonah Hill), to the airwaves of The Daily Rip, an upbeat morning show hosted by Brie (Blanchett) and Jack (Tyler Perry).
